St. Joseph Residence (Little Sisters of the Poor)
Enfield, CT
St. Joseph’s Residence for the elderly, run by the Little Sisters of the Poor, had an outdated chapel that was dark and did not provide enough seating for its residents. Lawrence Hoy Studios was brought in to oversee the entire scope of the project including the design of the chapel, on-site restoration work & fabrication of furnishings. The sanctuary was reoriented to line up with the beautiful cruciform skylights. The Oak ceiling was lightening and new LED lighting was installed to be unobtrusive and allow the natural light to filter down into the chapel. A new Celebrant’s Chair was fabricated and a marble ambo was created to match the existing altar. A custom wood carved youthful Jesus was added to create a Holy Family sculpture. Decorative terrazzo floors and new curved pews were installed to provide for a seemless interaction between residents and the sanctuary. The new seating layout provides additional handicap seating areas and wider aisles to better serve the residents.
