Saint Joseph Church
Middletown, Delaware
The designs for the sanctuary furniture at Saint Joseph’s Church are not only stand-outs in liturgical design—winning Best in Show Award from Ministry and Liturgy Magazine—but perhaps more important, are usable/accessible to handicapped people and those in wheelchairs. The ambo and lectern raise and lower electronically to any height, accommodating anyone seated or standing. The altar, perhaps the first and only example of one designed to be lowered if a priest happens to be in a wheelchair there for a priest in a wheelchair. Complete handicapped accessibility throughout the church was a vital part of the program established by the parish design committee.
The liturgical elements are both functional and beautiful, made of granite, and Oak and walnut wood, with bronze decorative accents.
