Nativity of Our Lord Church
Monroe Township, NJ
Nativity of Our Lord Church was essentially an industrial building modified to be a church that was devoid of character or beauty. It was Lawrence Hoy Studios’ challenge to turn it into something worthy of a worship space. The first thing we did was to remove the commercial drop tile ceiling. This added a majestic height to the interior, and exposed the ceiling’s fabulous structural beams. We painted the beams with a noble but simple color scheme, which transformed the space. The old wall-to-wall carpet and linoleum floors were replaced with decorative terrazzo, inset with the symbols of the Trinity, Star of Bethlehem and Chi Ro. We created stunning new marble sanctuary pieces, and added repurposed antiques from churches in Philadelphia and Manhattan. New stained glass was installed in all the windows, depicting the Glorious and Luminous Mysteries. New LED lighting with a computerized dimming system accentuates the beautiful new worship space.
