Daughters of Divine Charity
New York City
The Daughters of Divine Charity wanted their chapel restored to its historic design. Over the years a wooden reredos was added to the large mosaic detracting from the beauty of the tile work. Red carpeting was installed and stenciling had been added to the walls. Lawrence Hoy Studios was brought in to transform the space. The old carpeting was removed to reveal the original slate floors. The wooden reredos frame was removed so the mosaic would be the focal point of the chapel. The entire chapel was repainted in the original color scheme and the pews were restored to look like new. A new processional cross was designed and fabricated to match an original one that had been lost. Repairs were made to the stained glass windows to complete the renovation.
