Sacred Heart Chapel – The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph
Brentwood, NY
The Sacred Heart Chapel in Brentwood NY is one of the most architecturally beautiful chapels in the country. Built in the Romanesque style in 1930 for the Sisters of St. Joseph, the chapel is exquisite in every way. It has windows made of pure alabaster, the upper walls are made of sandstone quarried in Ohio, and the walls, columns, and floor are an intricate mosaic of marble from around the world.
The chapel is an historic and profoundly sacred worship space. But decades of dust and waxy candle smoke caked every surface of the interior, giving the once magnificently luminous chapel a dark, dingy appearance
